Procrastination…

I’m sitting around knitting my latest sweater project. Why? Because I’m putting off my latest sock project. After eons of using the classic “turn heel/pick up gusset stitches” heel, I’ve decided to try my hand at the “Fish Lips Kiss Heel” by Sox Therapist. In the past, I’ve always been great at picking up new knitting and crocheting techniques and running with them.

NOT THIS TIME.

I don’t know what pod-person has taken over my brain, but I just cannot figure out how to do this! I’ve been reading the directions, watching the videos on YouTube, etc. I just can’t grasp the technique. Honestly, I’m a reasonably intelligent human human being–I’m an IT worker, for God’s sake–but this is just escaping me.

So, instead, I’m knitting something I CAN actually knit…

Does anyone else have a crafting technique they just can’t get?

Finding the time…

Lately, it seems that I don’t get enough time to knit. I’m in the process of trying to learn how to code at work, to make myself a bit more useful (read: marketable). It seems that every waking hour has been devoted to learning HTML, CCS, JavaScript, and Git, (which I’m convinced is the spawn of Satan). There is a company “boot camp” that I’m applying for, but the chances of getting in are slim, due to the fact that 100 people are trying out for this, but they’re only going to accept 15. My boss has said that if I don’t get in, he’s fine with me doing individual classes instead. Of course, in corporate America these days, “classes” are basically on-line tutorials. I’m positively ANCIENT at work…I remember the days when we had a beautiful, separate facility where you went for ALL-DAY classes in whatever you needed to learn. But I digress…

Here, to remind myself that I’m capable of something, is a picture of my last creation. It’s a crocheted “Quick Cocoon” from the Lion Brand site. It was a lot of fun to make. If you’d like to see the details, I posted it to Ravelry, too! http://ravel.me/PBELKNAP/qc

In time-honored tradition, I’m done just in time for Summer! Perhaps I can use it for those times when people crank the AC to arctic conditions in July. LOL…

A word on my Twitter…

I’ve added a link to my twitter handle. As you can see, I tend to be a TAD political out in the twitter-verse. That is NOT my intention with this blog, though. All this blog is going to be about is my rabid obsession with all things knitting and crocheting (with occasional forays into spinning…which have proven disastrous so far!). Actually, my disastrous 1-day training at a spinning class would be a funny future post…

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

This is my first foray into a WordPress blog! I have in the past had a blogger blog, but thought this would be a great place to continue.

I may try to move some of my blogger content, if I can only figure out how!
